Off the kitchen table. Into good hands.

You started a business to do the work you're good at. Not to sort receipts after dinner, or hand that job to your spouse, your mom or your sister. I take the office work off your plate so everyone gets their evenings back.

Your business shouldn't need the kitchen table

What I take off your plate

Hand me one piece or the whole back office. I fit the work to where your business is right now, not to a one-size package.

Books

Bookkeeping & accounting

Catch-up work when the books have fallen behind, monthly upkeep, and reconciliations. QuickBooks setup and moves from Desktop to Online. Reports you can actually read.

Payroll & HR

Payroll & people

Payroll in one state or several, W-2s and 1099s, and workers' comp audits. New-hire paperwork, employee handbooks and HR policies that hold up.

Operations

Systems & compliance

Written procedures so things don't live in one person's head. Insurance policy reviews, and getting ready for audits and inspections, including OSHA, FDA and USDA.

Growth

Planning for what's next

Grant writing and grant management, budgets, and financial analysis. I'll also help you get more out of your CPA when tax strategy starts to matter.

Need a website or online listings? I can help with that too, with a trusted partner.

Big or small

Every business gets a seat at the table

Some clients hand me the whole back office. Many others meet with me just once a quarter, so we can make sure the books are on track and there are no surprises at tax time. Both are exactly the kind of work I want to do.

My goal is simple: help as many local businesses succeed as I can.

Who I work with

Small businesses that have outgrown the shoebox

My clients are great at what they do. Most have been handling the office work themselves, or leaning on family to do it. Some have fallen a few months behind. Some have fallen a few years behind. Either way, we start where you are.

If you don't use accounting software, that's fine. We'll figure out together whether you need it, or set up simple systems that make tax time easier.

Everyone's welcome at this table. BH Business Solutions is an LGBTQ+ owned business.

From the files

One client, the whole back office

Here's what that looks like in practice. A shareholder in three related companies came to me with almost ten years of tangled records. This is what we tackled together.

Case file · One owner, three companies
The situation

One shareholder, three related companies, each with its own mix of owners. Nearly a decade of owner loans, advances and payments between them, and none of it had ever been reconciled.

On top of that: payroll run through an outside service, insurance that hadn't been reviewed in years, and project costs that were hard to see.

What I did

Books

  • Rebuilt years of disorganized records into clean, accurate books
  • Untangled the money moving between all three companies

Payroll & HR

  • Brought multi-state payroll in-house, with workers' comp to match
  • Managed temp staffing agencies to keep projects staffed and on schedule

Operations

  • Trained staff with simple guides for tracking project expenses
  • Set up electronic vendor payments

Insurance

  • Reviewed every policy and restructured coverage to fit the business as it is today

The result: books they can trust, lower payroll costs, and a clear view of what each project really costs.

About

Hi, I'm Amity.

My path here wasn't a straight line. I started out doing graphic design for a textbook company, which is probably why I care so much about reports that are easy to read. In 2008 I started keeping books, first for a small direct sales company and then for a homeless shelter.

From there I joined a hospital accounting office here in Belfast, where I first put my accounting degree to serious use. Since then I've run HR and the books for local builders, worked as a financial analyst, and managed the business office for a food producer through inspections, busy seasons and a full system change.

In 2024 I started BH Business Solutions to do that same work for small businesses that don't need, or aren't ready for, a full-time office manager. I'm known for walking into a mess, figuring out what needs attention first, and building systems that keep things running after I've gone home.

Generic fixes don't work, because nobody's situation is actually generic. So we start with a conversation.
